Introduction to Incense
The word "incense" derives from the Latin word "incensum" meaning to "set on fire."

The word "perfume" comes from the Latin "per fumum" which means "through smoke."

The burning of dried plant materials and oils to produce aroma goes back thousands of years. There is evidence that it played a major role in most (if not all) of the great cultures of the past; Celtic, Vedic, Mesopotamian, Minoan, Greek, Arabian, Egyptian, Roman, Aztec and Inca Indian, Mayan, North American Indian, Japanese, Himalayan, Christian and more.

It seems that in the spiritual tradition of these cultures, incense burning was a way of creating contact with The Creator, a link between body and spirit. The process is that the incense undergoes transformation through fire and the soul of the plant (it's essence) takes flight through smoke or vapour. As it does so it so it shares with those present it’s exquisite beauty- the aroma.

Incense burning can be experienced at whatever level one chooses. At a deeper level it can be used for cleansing, clearing, centring, relaxing, energising, strengthening, grounding, inspiring, promoting spirituality… On the other hand simply enjoying the exquisite aromas is enough in itself.

There are also recognised medicinal values attached to the different incense and I do offer guidance in this and psychological healing properties in the essential oils catalogue, but not in the “resin incense” catalogue where my focus is on the quality of the aroma, although some of the “resin incense” are also dealt with in the oils catalogue.
